Today's post is an article I recently found in the world of Facebook.  Don't worry, I checked my sources, and The Israeli Diamond Industry is entirely legit.  This is a news article released by The Israeli Diamond Industry concerning De Beers' diamond mine in Botswana.  Obviously credit for the writing goes to the fine writers at The Israeli Diamond Industry.

BOTSWANA'S JWANENG DIAMOND MINE FLOODED 13.12.12, 10:06 / Mining De Beers  Enlarge  Pre-shift inspection of the 50 ton Terex RH 200 shovel at Venetia Mine Heavy rains have flooded production areas of De Beers' Jwaneng diamond mine in Botswana. The floods stopped some of the mining activities, leading to production delays. In the past few weeks the area had a large amount of rain, "probably more than half our annual rainfall we would expect from now until April," the company told IDEX Online. According to one unconfirmed report, the bottom of the pit is submerged in a few meters of water, and serious production delays are expected. "Some production areas were temporarily flooded, however our current dewatering systems have removed the water and enabled production to continue without significant delay. Other production areas were not affected," a Debswana spokesperson said. At this point it's not clear how this will affect rough diamond supplies in the near-term, if at all. Typically during the October to April rainy season the roads leading to the pit become slippery. Jwaneng is one of the diamond industry's largest and most prolific mines. Last week De Beers and Botswana celebrated 30 years of diamond production at the diamond mine.

This platinum pendant has a diamond estimated to weight .49cts. I also estimate it to be an I-J color, SI1 clarity. It was NOT MADE BY US! It is an estate piece that frankly was not made very well in my opinion. If you have not already noticed, the lower right hand prong is not in proper alignment with the lower left hand prong, nor is it directly opposite the upper left hand prong. I don't know what it would cost me to make today with its light platinum chain, but I know it would cost me more than $1,000 just to make it. Of course, if I made it, it would be made much more correctly. Still, it looks very nice to the unaided eye. I should just tell you how sweet it is and not show pictures, yeah, that would do it all right. Take it home for $700. Merry Christmas! This 14kt white gold cathedral engagement ring is set with a 5.5mm WinkCZ.  Currently a size 6.25.  I can throw it in the melt bucket and get $180 or so out of it, but that would be criminal for such a pretty ring.  (It weighs over 4dwt, nearly a quarter ounce.)  Still, it has sat around here for years and needs a home. $269 takes it home for way below my current cost to make it. Day six Wow. This incredible piece has been here way too long. We made it at least four years ago to test a bench to see what quality of workmanship they did. To make the test harder, we made it in palladium. As you can see they did an incredible job. Look at the quality of the mille grain. Look at those double claw prongs holding that 8mm WinkCZ! Here is the side view. This gives you a better view of the .36cts total weight of G/H color diamonds. This lets you see the perfection of the mille grain even better, and the quality of the bead setting shows up as well. I tell you though, I am tired of moving this around in the safe.
